Atovaquone and proguanil is a combination medication used to prevent malaria, especially in regions like Africa, South America and Southern Asia.

Take one tablet daily, starting one to two days before entering malaria risk area. Continue taking while in risk area and for 7 days after leaving.

Each Atovaquone/Proguanil Hydrochloride film-coated tablet contains 250 mg atovaquone and 100 mg  proguanil hydrochloride.

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headaches. Sometimes they may cause allergic type reactions such as an itchy rash or swelling or the face. Rarely, tiredness, itching, dark urine and jaundice.

• No medicine is 100% effective against malaria.
• It is very important that you try to reduce the number of insect bites that you get in order to reduce your chances of catching malaria.
• Doxycycline 100mg capsules should not be taken by children under the age of 12 years.
• Consult your pharmacist or doctor before purchasing this medicine if you suffer from other medical conditions or are taking any regular medicines
• Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
• Read the instructions on the pack and the patient information leaflet before use.

If you are coming in and out of malarial areas and you will spend less than 2 weeks outside of a malarial area, you should take antimalarials throughout this whole time. If you will spend more than 2 weeks outside, please treat these as individual trips.

There are several different malaria tablets available. Which one you’ll need to take may depend on:

• where you are travelling to
• how your body responds to the medication
• your current health status

Doxycycline

Doxycycline is an antibiotic that can be taken to prevent malaria. The treatment course is usually started 1 to 2 days before entering an at-risk area and continued until 4 weeks after you leave. Doxycycline is a prescription-only medication, so you will need to complete our online questionnaire for a doctor’s approval to receive it.

Atovaquone and Proguanil

Atovaquone and Proguanil tablets should be started 1 to 2 days before travelling to an area which has malaria and continued throughout your stay, until 7 days after you have returned to a malaria-free zone. It is a prescription-only medication, so you will need to complete our questionnaire for a doctor’s approval to receive it.

Issues relating to returns, damage, or faulty products are handled on a case‑by‑case basis to ensure fair and consistent resolution.

Reporting Procedure

• In the first instance, customers must email: masta@speedshealthcare.co.uk
• The email must include:
  • Order number
  • Description of the issue
  • Photographic evidence where applicable
• Distributor will provide next steps depending on the nature of the case.

Returns and refunds: Medicinal products cannot be returned or refunded where there is no fault with the product, including where a customer no longer requires the medication. This is due to patient safety requirements, as medicines that have been supplied to a customer cannot be returned to stock or reused and must be appropriately disposed of.

Please allow up to 5–7 working days for your order to be processed. This includes online risk assessment review, prescription, and supplier dispensing and dispatch.
